WHAT WE OFFER
North Star offers an array of services that fall under ILS (Independent Living Supports), from personal management to community services.
PERSONAL MANAGEMENT
Booking and keeping track of monthly appointments such as meetings, medical appointments and other events.
Keeping up with personal hygiene, such as brushing teeth, showering, shaving, etc.
Making sure that personal appearance is acceptable, i.e. making sure the clothes suit the weather and event.
SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PLANNING
Creating an emergency backpack full of necessary items to grab asap.
Creating an emergency plan detailing how to vacate the premise and who to contact.
Practicing emergency drills in the home and out in public.
MONEY MANAGEMENT
Learning the value of coins, paper money and debit.
Learning how to properly count change for purchases.
Budgeting monthly expenses such as bills, food, emergency funds and savings.
MEAL PREPARATION
Researching healthy meal options and recipes to cook.
Shopping for ingredients necessary for recipes as well as other groceries.
Preparing the food to cook, such as seasoning, chopping, marinating, etc.
Cooking the recipes that are selected with the assistance of a Life Skills Instructor.
HEALTH
Finding a doctor or dentist, or any professional services needed.
Scheduling appointments and keeping track of them.
Keeping track of personal health, whether it be physical or mental.
Exercising whether it be around a neighborhood, local park or a public gym.
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Researching colleges and how to enroll, as well as what services are offered there.
Finding places to volunteer locally in the community.
Applying for a job and getting job experience.
